Efficient TEM00-mode solar laser using four Nd:YAG rods/four off-axis parabolic mirrors pumping approach

A four-rod/four-TEM00-mode beam off-axis parabolic mirror solar pumping concept is proposed. Four mirrors with 10 m2 total collection area were used as the primary concentrators to pump four 3.1-mm diameter, 84-mm length neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) rods within 2V-shaped cavities through secondary fused-silica aspheric and rectangular light guides, ensuring a good absorbed power distribution each rod avoiding serious thermal lensing stress issues associated classical single large lasers. The laser design parameters optimized using ZEMAX© LASer Cavity Analysis Design (LASCAD©) analysis software maximize TEM00-mode power. 155.29-W was numerically calculated, corresponding 15.5 W / efficiency 1.72% solar-to-TEM00-mode conversion efficiency, respectively. This result represents an improvement of nearly 2 1.24 times, in respectively, compared previous experimental records pumped concentrator. It provides also 1.14 1.19 times improvement, numerical record by Fresnel lens
